Lough Corrib Angling

June

Salmon start to enter the lake in numbers during the month of June and can be caught trolling or on the fly. Most Salmon are taken on Toby lures of different colours depending on water clarity and time of the day. The majority of fish are taken early in the morning or late at night and it is an unforgettable experience to be out on the lake at sunset engulfed by the Connemara mountains.

Trout fishing becomes more difficult during the day after the first week in June and as with the salmon it is much better to fish early morning or later in the evening with Caenis or large dry buzzer patterns. Very large fish can be caught on these ‘Balling Buzzer’ imitations, which imitate large numbers of male insects trying to mate with the females as they form a large clump in their attempts to throw the leg over so to speak!
