Lough Corrib Angling
July

Salmon continue to be the target for most anglers in July but a lot will depend on water levels and what is happening at the Galway weir.

July starts to see the trout more active again especially in the evenings rising freely to sedge and small chironomids. Fry patterns will work during the day but if the sun is out and the temperature is high, its best to go down afer them, so bring a fast sinking line or a snorkel and mask. The Cricket or ‘Buddy Holly’ as its known in Headford can be dapped successfully in a good wave. Crickets can be bought in the local pet shop. Early morning Caenis fishing continues throughout July and it is a time when very large fish can be caught with regularity as they feed on the blankets of spent fly.
