Lough Corrib Angling

April

April is a great month on the lake and is the cream of the fishing season with trout moving freely to Chironomids and Olives towards the latter half of the month. Olive hatches can be very frustrating with fish rising all around the boat but your rod remains firmly straight.

My own personal experience with olive fishing on lakes is that I have far more success nymphing (olive nymph imitations) and dry fly fishing than with the traditional wet flies. In a big wave I will still opt for small dries over the traditional pullers, on calmer days olive nymph patterns fished slowly on an intermediate or Di-3 work extremely well.
